Lithium Battery Raw Material Impurity Removal Efficiency Improvement Project for a New Energy Material Enterprise

2026-01-27
Case Study: Enhanced Purity in Lithium Battery Cathode Material Production

A new energy enterprise specializing in the production of lithium battery cathode materials faced challenges in the preparation process of NCM ternary precursors. Micron-scale ferromagnetic impurities in the raw materials would seriously affect the cycle life and safety performance of the final battery. The traditional filter cartridge filter previously used not only had insufficient interception accuracy (only able to filter impurities ≥5μm) but also frequently clogged, requiring filter cartridge replacement every 4 hours on average, resulting in a comprehensive production line availability rate of only 78%.

To address this pain point, the enterprise introduced the TMY brand Dry Powder Electromagnetic Filter. This device uses a gradient magnetic field generated by a strong excitation coil to accurately capture ferromagnetic impurities ≥0.5μm in raw materials, achieving a stable impurity removal efficiency of over 99%. Meanwhile, its fully automatic magnetic rod cleaning and slag discharge function enables impurity removal without stopping the machine, extending the filter cartridge replacement frequency from once every 4 hours to once every 30 days.

After the project implementation, the production line availability rate increased to 95%, and the filtration cost per ton of raw material decreased by 42%. More importantly, the iron impurity content in the finished material dropped from the original 120ppb to below 15ppb, and the one-time pass rate of products increased by 12%, successfully meeting the stringent quality requirements of downstream leading power battery manufacturers and helping the enterprise successfully enter the high-end supply chain system.
