Slurry Electromagnetic Filter Enhances Purity for a Lithium Battery Anode Material Producer

2026-01-27
Problem

A leading lithium battery anode material producer was facing critical quality issues: residual ferromagnetic impurities in its graphite slurry were causing internal short circuits in finished batteries, resulting in a 7% product failure rate. The existing filtration system relied on disposable filter cartridges, which could only capture particles ≥3 μm, leading to an iron impurity content of 92 ppb in the final product. Additionally, filter cartridges required replacement every 2.5 hours, reducing production line efficiency to just 81%.

Solution

To resolve these challenges, the producer adopted TMY Machinery’s Slurry Electromagnetic Filter. The device uses a high-gradient magnetic field generated by excitation coils and a magnetic matrix to capture ferromagnetic impurities as small as 0.2 μm, achieving an impurity removal efficiency of over 99.2%. Its automated cleaning cycle, which uses high-pressure air and flush water, eliminates the need for manual filter changes, enabling continuous operation for up to 30 days without interruption.

Results

After implementation, the production line efficiency increased to 96%, while the filtration cost per ton of slurry decreased by 41%. Most importantly, the iron impurity content in the finished anode material dropped to below 8 ppb, reducing the battery failure rate to 0.8%. This upgrade allowed the producer to meet the strict quality standards of global EV battery manufacturers, securing long-term supply agreements and strengthening its position in the high-end new energy market.
