Two-stage Permanent Magnet Grate Ensures Safety of Infant Milk Powder for Leading Dairy Manufacturer in New Zealand

2026-06-30
In June, a large infant milk powder processing plant in Auckland, New Zealand, completed purification upgrading for the front-end powder spraying and drying line. Tiny iron wear impurities mixed into whey powder and full cream milk powder during grinding and conveying, causing excessive metal contaminants in finished products that failed Australian and New Zealand food testing standards, and the production line frequently shut down to remove black speck defects.
The production line adopted a two-stage iron removal solution. An automatic drawer grate magnet with 12000GS high-strength magnetic rods is installed at the pipeline inlet to intercept coarse iron scraps, supporting online pull-out self-cleaning without production shutdown. A rotary grate magnet is equipped at the rear section to dynamically agitate powder and prevent bridging blockage, capturing micron-scale weak magnetic iron particles. The whole unit is made of 316 food-grade stainless steel and certified by Australian FSMA food contact standards.
After renovation, iron impurities in finished milk powder are stably controlled below 15ppb, fully meeting strict standards for infant food. The frequency of production line shutdown cleaning drops by 78%, and a single production line cuts raw material loss by more than 46,000 New Zealand Dollars every month. The factory placed orders for identical equipment for three newly expanded production lines.
